Mod Podge Virgin...A Mod Podge TV Tray

When you were little, did you have your own metal tv tray?  I did.  I wish I could remember exactly what it was...but it was probably Incredible Hulk, Dukes of Hazzard, or Care Bears.  Random mix, huh?  I loved the A-team, too.  I pity the fool!

Anyway, on one of my thrift stops, I ran across this Power Ranger tv tray for $2.

It took me back to being four years old, our house in Hillshire, in our big den, eating on my tray and watching tv.  Isn't it funny how things can take you back in time?  I wanted Meredith to have one, too!  And it was screaming for some paint and a monogram.

But fast forward 4 months, and Meredith was quite content with the Power Ranger tray.  And painting the tray was on my to-do list with a hundred other things.

A month or so ago I heard someone talk about Mod Podge.  And I really didn't know what they were talking about.  (gasp)  Remember--I'm not crafty.  My addiction is home accessories and decorating. and spray paint.

I ran across a blog where a girl mod-podged some magnets.  I thought--hey--I could do that.  I didn't realize how easy it was.  I've got some pizza magnets I could cover with scrapbook paper and make them cute.  My attention span can handle that craft.

So off to HobLob I go for some cute paper and modpodge for the magnets.  But when I got home, I saw the tv tray and was like, oh yeah!

I had bought a mix of paper...but luckily these 3 went together.

I cut the paper in strips and laid them out.  And I honestly didn't plan to make the M.  It just kinda happened.

I thought it turned out ok.  My ADD kicked in after an hour.  I didn't realize how hard it would be to cover the edges.  Then I had to figure out how to do the corners.  It took me 2 hours to finish.  Not sure if that is good or bad?  If I had planned better, I might could have made it cuter.  But towards the end (ie, 11pm), I was slapping mod podge and paper on it.  I just wanted it done!

I spray painted the brass legs brown, because...well, they were brass!  duh.  Still need to put a sealer on top, since she eats and drinks on it. (Hopefully it won't take me another 4 months to do it!)

But Meredith loves it, and that's all that matters.  She thought I had bought another one!  (she knows me so well)

Oh well, one thing off the list, but the magnets are still on the list. And I'll be on the lookout for another tray to do for Will, even if I can turn the M upside down.  But it would be a bit girly for the Moose.

And if you are looking for other mod podge inspiration, here is the motherlode.
