While You Were Out--The Set-Up/Day 1

Do you remember the show While You Were Out that was on TLC a few years ago?  I used to love that show, along with the original Trading Spaces.  (I bought the T-shirt.  Literally.  I was that big of a dork fan!)

Well, my wonderful in-laws went to Florida today.  And guess what Mom & Dad?  While you were out, we flipped your kitchen!

(Of course, I can't blog about this while you are out, because you have internet access, and we know you stalk look at my blog daily...today is actually Thursday, 4/8, but I will be posting 5 days at one time after the Reveal on Monday...)

The house was built in the 40's and the McGee clan moved in in 1977.

If these kitchen walls could talk!!!!  With three daughters and one son, this kitchen has seen a lot of activity--countless meals, conversations, crying, laughing, and I'm sure some yelling back in the old days.  Mom McGee spends a lot of her time in the kitchen.  Throughout the years, she has fried thousands of chicken cutlets, mashed a million potatoes, and made hundreds of batches of fudge.

She has wanted to re-do the kitchen for a while, but mom and dad spend so much time giving of themselves to all 4 four kids, all 3 son-in-laws, and the gorgeous daughter-in-law (ahem), and all the grandkids--that fixing up the house for themselves is last on their list.  So we decided to take care of it for them.

We threw them a surprise 50th Anniversary Party back in December....Aren't they cute?

THEN....

AND NOW...

This project has been in the works for over a month now...lots of planning and preparation.  We're excited and nervous to get started...

Here are some before pics of the kitchen.  When I arrived after work, everything had been cleared, cleaned,  and de-cluttered...

As you walk in from the entryway/dining room...

There was a floating desk attached to this piece of plywood

Day 1-Thursday, April 8
Mom & Dad left for Florida this morning.

Enter daughters Tammy & Vickie.  (Daughter Debbie & new hubby Michael are going with them in Florida)

Tammy, Jeff, and Vickie spent the day cleaning out the kitchen.

Sorry Mom...Your house was clean and neat when you left.  We know you spent hours cleaning, because Debbie & Michael will be staying with you....but hours later, this is what it looked like.

There are more 'mess' pics, but I'll spare you...

Hubby and Dennis arrived around 4ish.  Dennis took down the 1" cabinet trim, and both hubby & Dennis  installed new 3 1/2" crown molding till midnight.
